Heðin Mortensen is the new Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Labour
Heðin Mortensen, former mayor of Tórshavn, has been appointed as transport minister. He replaces Henrik Old, who stepped down last month amid a long tunnel feud.

20.11.2018 - 13:28

The Prime Minister has installed Heðin Mortensen as Minister of Transport Infrastructure and Labour.

Mortensen, of Javnaðarflokkurin (social democrats), has a great deal of experience in national and local politics, including 12 years as Tórshavn’s mayor. This is, however, his first time as a minister.

He was elected to Parliament in 1998 after several stints as a deputy representative.

Mortensen became a member of Tórshavn City Council in 1973 and served as the city’s mayor between 2005 and 2016.

Today is his first day in office, and he is expected to have his hands full with many unsolved matters, including the Glasir budget complications, prioritisation of tunnel projects and a report on the poor condition of the country’s bridges.
