“LGBT people are welcome to enjoy Tórshavn’s buzzing nightlife, but we recommend that both LGBTs and heterosexual people keep public displays of affection to a minimum – especially outside of Tórshavn.”

This is the message under the ‘information for LGBT travellers’ heading in the Faroe Islands: Tourist Guide pamphlet, published annually by advertising firm Sansir, with a 55,000 circulation in Danish, English and German.

No further details are provided on why LGBT need to tread with caution.

Lena Mohr, CEO of Sansir, says that the article dates back to 2016 and that the passage on LGBT people should not have been included in the latest issue of the pamphlet.

Eiler Fagraklett, chairman of LGBT Faroe Islands, says that the words in the pamphlet were written by LGBT Faroe Islands.

He adds, however, that the guidelines are outdated and have subsequently been rewritten on the LGBT Faroe Islands and the Visit Faroe Islands website. The text in the pamphlet, however, has yet to be changed.
