Twenty-five-year-old Johan Sundstein is the top-earning e-gamer in the world after winning this weekend’s The International event, held in Shanghai, China.

Better known as N0tail in the egaming community, Sundstein defended his world championship title from last year with his team OG.

The title earned the team DKK 104 million, which will be split between the five team members.

With his total career earnings now approaching $7 million, OG team leader Sundstein is now the all-time highest earning esports player in the world.

The game

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena video game played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on a map.

Each player independently controls a powerful character, known as a "hero", who all have unique abilities and differing styles of play.

During a match, players collect experience points and items for their heroes to successfully defeat the opposing team's heroes in close combat.

A team wins by being the first to destroy the other team's "Ancient", a large structure located within their base.
