The Faroese health system needs a coordinator for patients receiving treatment from more than one hospital.

There is a particular need for coordination when part of a patient’s treatment is done abroad, says Hergerð Heldarskarð, the head of the Overseas Department at the National Hospital of the Faroe Islands.

The Overseas Department has for some time been working with a patient coordinator in Denmark, who helps organise treatments for Faroese patients in Denmark.

However, as the number of treatment options continues to grow, it is no longer enough to have such a coordinator in Denmark. The Faroese health system now needs to appoint its own patient coordinator, says Heldarskarð.
