Total smoking ban proposed for Danish schools

A proposal on a total smoking ban in Danish state schools will be debated in Parliament next month, reports Danish newspaper Politiken.
This ban would mean that pupils in 68 state schools will not be allowed to smoke during school hours, even outside the school area.
A separate government proposal seeks to double the fine for retailers that sell tobacco products to people under the age of 18.
According to this proposal, a first-time breach will incur a DKK 10,000 fine, DKK 20,000 for the second and DKK 40,000 for the third.
The government is also looking into the possibility of stripping retailers of their tobacco license if they breach the rules.
