Big construction project to resume
Stóratjørn, a huge construction project which was shelved a few years ago, is now back on the agenda.
Tórshavn City Council needs more building space for flats, leisure, industry and other purposes, and is also planning to build a multi-sports complex in the area.
In 2007, a new town plan by-law was being created specifically for the Stóratjørn project.
The area was earmarked for an industrial estate, residential buildings, sports and leisure areas and a public recreational area.
But the whole project was axed due to the financial crisis in 2008.
At Thursday’s meeting, the City Council will decide anew on the financing for the Stóratjørn project.
The council will also look at the requirements specification for the multi-sports hall, which will host a variety of sports events and concerts.
The City Council is on the lookout for private investors to help finance the construction of the multi-sports complex.
