Less and cheaper travel for public employees
The government wants to cut publicly-funded travel activities by 20 percent next year

Travel expenses for public sector employees are set to be cut by 20 percent next year.

This is one of the finance ministry’s proposed amendments to the 2019 budget proposal.

The ministry argues that new technology makes it possible to increase the number of ‘digital meetings’ and thus reduces the need to travel abroad for meetings.

As part of this plan, travel tickets will now be purchased in a more organised manner in an effort to cut travel costs.

The new measure will apply to all public institutions.
