Search for missing tourist continues

The search for the 29-year-old Austrian man, who travelled to Fugloy on Friday but has not been seen since, continues today.

The man arrived in Fugloy by helicopter on Friday around noon and was planning to return to Klaksvík with ferry Ritan that same afternoon.

However, due to poor weather, the Ritan captain decided to land in Hattarvík rather than at the usual port of Kirkja. Upon departure from Hattarvík, the tourist was nowhere to be seen.

A search and rescue operation, including helicopters, rescue ships, police and locals, was launched, but so far the man has not been found.

He arrived in the Faroes on Thursday. He spoke broken English and said he wanted to go for a walk in the mountains.

The police say the man wore a backpack but was not warmly clad.
