Tvøroyri pub shuts down

Tomorrow will see the last ‘fimmarin’, a popular Friday evening event at the pub at Tvøroyri harbour.
And on 31 May, which is when the town’s annual Night of Culture takes place, the Seglloftið cultural centre will host its last event.
Anna Kirstin Thomsen, who has been running the pub and the Seglloftið for many years, says on Facebook that she is saddened by her decision to retire.
There is hope in sight
She adds, however, that she is delighted that her brother and other locals managed to secure a ‘listed’ status for the 183-year-old buildings, and that they did a great job in renovating the buildings into “some of the cosiest buildings in the country”.
“Of course, I hope that some activity will continue here under new management, because these buildings are the very heart of Tvøroyri,” she says.
“It would be very sad to see them dark and empty after 183 years of buzzing activity.”
