Skating rink opens in Klaksvík

Tórshavn has for many years had its outdoor skating rink during the Christmas period, and now the country’s second-largest city, Klaksvík, has followed suit.
The new rink is linked to the city’s new seawater heating system, which makes it inexpensive to operate, says Klaksvík mayor Jógvan Skorheim.
The return water from the seawater heating system is close to freezing point, so not much energy is needed to keep the water at freezing temperature.
Natural skating rink in Sandoy
But sometimes nature can take of everything.
Last week, in the wake of the recent power cuts due to poor weather conditions, the schoolground at the Central School of Sandoy had frozen over, much to the delight of the pupils, who could enjoy their very own natural skating rink for a day.
