Electric car transition going slowly
Only one in 16 new cars registered last year was powered by electricity

Getting the Faroese public to buy electric cars rather than fuel-based cars is going at a pace perhaps too leisurely to be called fast.

Out of the 2,214 new passenger cars registered last year, only 142 were powered by electricity, which means that only one in 16 new cars is not powered by petrol or diesel.

Meanwhile, figures from the Farose Vehicle Administration show that car sales have tripled in only one decade, with 697 new cars registered in 2009, compared with the 2,214 registered in 2019.
