Harbour expansion faces big delays

It remains unclear whether the insurance will cover the replacement of anchor bolts at the new quay at the Port of Tórshavn.
This has led to major delays in the harbour expansion project. The first section of the expansion was due for completion last October, but now this section will not be completed until this spring at the very earliest.
The entire expansion project was expected to be completed in May this year, but this date will also be significantly delayed.

About half of the 200 bolts which anchor the quay to the sea floor have cracked and need to be replaced.
These cracked bolts are attached to the otherwise completed part of the quay. Cracks have also appeared in anchor bolts at the part of the quay which is still being constructed.
Engineers have proposed a solution which is believed to prevent the bolts from cracking again. The plan is to fasten the bolts two metres further up than previously, so that they will be fixed at six metres below sea level, as opposed to eight metres.
