Man, 73, dies in quarry accident

A 73-year-old truck driver died when his dumper truck became unstable while tipping a load of rocks at the Hústoft quarry.

The 35-tonne truck slid down a slope into a three-metre deep pool of water.

An ambulance, fire services, divers, police officers and a large industrial crane arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, but the truck driver was pronounced dead once he was rescued from the truck cockpit.

The victim’s relatives have been informed, and the Working Environment Service and the police are carrying out further investigations.
