Public transport grinds to a halt

All coaches between villages and towns have been suspended for the day, and most ferry services have also been cancelled.

Suðuroy ferry Smyril is expected to depart Tvøroyri at 11:30am, and Sandoy ferry Teistin will attempt a departure from Skopun at 6:35pm.

Schools close

A number of schools, along with day-care centres in Sunda municipality and in Velbastaður, have announced closure today due to the poor weather conditions.

The following schools have so far announced closure today: 

Eysturoy: Fuglafjørður school, Toftir school, the school in Eysturkommuna and Runavík school.

Streymoy: the schools in Hósvík, Hvalvík and við Streymin.

Suðuroy:  Tvøroyri and Vágur schools and the college in Hov.
