A new way to disinfect toys
Disinfection of toys has been a regular feature in the country’s daycare centres since the Covid-19 outbreak.
Up to now, traditional hand sanitisers have been used for this purpose, but a new method promises to make this process significantly easier.
“I have two children who attend daycare, and when the outbreak came, I saw staff putting great efforts into disinfecting toys and other items with hand sanitisers,” says inventor Regin W. Dalsgaard.
“It struck me that there could be a much easier way to do this, so I started developing a cabinet fitted with UV lights inside where staff could put the toys. Trials have shown that after only a few minutes, the amount of harmful particles is significantly reduced.”
Successful trial
A prototype of the new UV cabinet has been trialled at Tórshavn’s Birkilund daycare centre.
“We soon realised that traditional hand sanitisers corroded the toys, so we decided instead to hide away the toys. This new method is a much better alternative,” says Birkilund centre manager Sanna á Løgmansbø.
After a successful trial period, the UV cabinet has now gone into production and is expected to be sent out to daycare centres from next month.
