After two consecutive Nations League wins, the national team was given a lesson in humility in yesterday’s 4-0 thrashing by Denmark

The national football team’s confidence after last month’s wins against Malta and Andorra was given a blow after a crushing 4-0 defeat to Denmark in yesterday’s friendly game, played at Herning's MCH Arena stadium in Denmark.

This has left the Faroese side with some thinking to do ahead of the upcoming Nations League games against Latvia and Andorra.

Off to a decent start

As expected, the Danish side had most of the possession at the start, but the Faroese visitors defended well.

After a few attempts at the Faroese goal, the Danes eventually opened the score in the 22th minute courtesy of a shot from Andreas Skov Olsen.

Only a few minutes later, the Danes were awarded a penalty, which Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen converted into a 2-0 lead.

From bad to worse

Things didn’t improve for the Faroese side, and only five minutes later, Joakim Mæhle managed to stroll through the Faroese defence to make it 3-0.

Towards the end of the first half, the Faroes had a chance to reduce the deficit, but Andreas Lava Olsen’s shot ended up being too tame to trouble the Danish keeper.

Moments later, Andreas Cornelius sealed the 4-0 win with a header.

Goalless second half

The second half was a matter of damage limitation for the Faroese side, which managed to increase its ball possession and create the occasional chance at goal.

But the Danes retained the upper hand throughout a goalless second half.

The Faroese players now have a few days to rest and recuperate ahead of Saturday’s Nations League game at home against Latvia, which is followed by another home game on Tuesday, this time against Andorra.
