Klaksvík tunnel closing at night for maintenance

Scheduled maintenance work will start tonight in the ”Norðoyatunnilin” subsea tunnel between Leirvík and Klaksvík.

This means that the tunnel will be closed for traffic Sundays-Fridays from 10pm to 6am until February when the works are scheduled for completion.

Night-time traffic will, however, be allowed through the tunnel at the following times: 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am.

Safety features and cables

The work will include construction of hard shoulders and safety fences throughout the length of the tunnel.

Two new cables will also be laid through the tunnel, and lights will be installed on the kerbs.

Once this work is completed, similar work will begin in the Streymoy-Vágar subsea tunnel.
