Faroese foreign minister backs Republicans

Jenis av Rana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture, supports the Republican Party in the US presidential election.

He says that although the election outcome may not affect the Faroes immediately, it will eventually be felt throughout the world, including in the Faroes.

“The election result is unlikely to significantly affect the ongoing trade talks between the US and the Faroes,” he says.

“However, from the Christian-democratic perspective of my party [Miðflokkurin, the Central Party], I’m rooting for the Republicans in this election because their core values are in line with the current government in the Faroe Islands with regards to ethical issues such as abortion.”
