Covid situation “most likely under control”

Although a few more positive Covid tests are expected over the coming days, the new Covid-19 outbreak has most likely been contained, says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.
“We were pleasantly surprised to see only two positive tests yesterday,” he says.
“However, as the new chain of infection contains the highly contagious UK strain, it would be unwise to rule out further infections at this point. Let’s hope that those who do test positive over the next few days have already been quarantined.”

He adds that a total of about 300 people will be in quarantine by the end of today’s contact tracing. Most of these are young people, based in Tórshavn, including a few classes at Glasir college. A few people in Vágar and in Hósvík have also been quarantined.
Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen said this morning that no new Covid restrictions will be announced today. The epidemic commission is meeting today, and further action will be determined by the infection figures over the coming days, he said.
Twelve daycare centres in the capital region are operating at limited capacity, and one centre is closed after a person associated with the centre tested positive.
