Ólavsøka has for many years kicked off with a colourful march on 27 July through the street of Tórshavn to celebrate LGBT rights.

However, due to Covid restrictions, this year’s march could not go ahead. So the organisers put on their creative hats and turned the event into a large convoy of cars travelling to various locations in Eysturoy.

“Our objective is not to provoke but rather to spread love and celebrate life,” said chief organiser Siri Súsonnudóttir Hansen.

”We are lucky that we do not have any ‘no-gay’ zones here in the Faroe Islands like some countries such as Poland have.”
