Red Cross donates DKK 1m to relief efforts

Red Cross Faroe Islands recently donated DKK 1 million to relief efforts across the world.
Half of this amount will go toward relief work carried out by the Red Cross and Red Crescent movements in Afghanistan where thousands have been forced to flee their homes.
The situation in Afghanistan has had serious humanitarian consequences, with urgent demand for health services, food and drink and psychological support, especially for children and youths, Red Cross Faroe Islands writes in a press release.
Improved access to Covid vaccines
DKK 300,000 will be spent on improving access to Covid-19 vaccines across the world.
DKK 81,000 of this amount came from private donors in connection with the ‘Everyone is entitled to a vaccine’ campaign, and pupils at Argir’s á Argjahamri school collected DKK 31,000 for this purpose.
One half of the DKK 300,000 will be sent to Bangladesh and the other half to Kenya, two of the hardest-hit countries during the pandemic.
The Red Cross will be working with local authorities to ensure that vaccines are distributed fairly and will also be providing information about vaccines.
Earthquake relief
The remaining DKK 200,000 will go toward humanitarian aid in Haiti following a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on 14 August.
More than 2,000 people were killed in the earthquake, 10,000 were injured and more than 100,000 lost their homes.
The Red Cross is helping in the area by providing health and sanitary services, food, drink and protective equipment.
