Still no Omicron in the Faroes
Gene sequencing of positive Covid tests will no longer be limited to people who have tested positive after arriving from abroad

The new Omicron Covid variant has so far not been detected in the Faroes.

Seven positive test samples have been gene sequenced up to now, and all came from people who tested positive after arriving from abroad.

Data from other countries shows that many who test positive with the Omicron variant have neither been abroad nor been directly exposed to infected people.

This has prompted the Faroese Food and Veterinary Authority, which oversees test analysis and gene sequencing, to change its procedures.

Domestically infected cases will now be included in the pool of test samples that may be sequenced for Omicron.
