Church membership continues to decline

Fólkakirkjan, Faroese National Evangelical Lutheran Church, currently has 41,857 members, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.

This amounts to 78 percent of the total Faroese population.

The percentage of church members has been on a steady decline in recent years.

Last year’s figure was 78.6 percent, down from 84.3 percent 20 years ago.

There are 61 churches and 26 vicars in the Faroes.
