Last week’s revelations by three women whose privacy had been compromised online appear to have had their desired effect.

Many other women with similar experiences have now contacted these three women to vent their frustrations.

“Many women have written to me saying that they have also seen their private photos shared online,” says Rannvá Magnadóttir, one of the three women who spoke out publicly last week about their experiences with digital harassment.

United against prejudice and shame

Yesterday, she arranged a meeting with about 20 of these women to discuss how they together can shed further light on this problem.

“This is obviously a very sensitive subject but together we stand stronger, and we support each other by talking openly about our experiences – completely free of any prejudice,” she says.

Breaking the silence

“We will arrange further meetings in the near future, and anyone wishing to attend is welcome to contact me. The more of us that get together, the better.”

The plan is to arrange a larger event in the future.

“We haven’t decided on the details of this event, but ‘breaking the silence’ seems to sum it up quite well,” says Rannvá.
