Bringing whaling and the way we eat marine mammals into the 21st century and ensuring its continued relevance and interest, especially for younger generations.

This is the main theme of the “Marine Mammals: A Sustainable Food Resource“ international conference on modern gastronomy to be held in Tórshavn’s Nordic House in October.

The event marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO), whose member countries – the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and Norway – all share a strong commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 – to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

As whale meat contains large quantities of mercury, limited consumption is recommended. Dietary advice will feature in the panel debate at the conference.
