Faroese exporter up for major sustainability award

International news agency Reuters has nominated Sørvágur-based salmon farming company Hiddenfjord for a prestigious ‘Responsible Business’ award.
The nomination is based on the company’s decision to transport its products by sea rather than by air.
Hiddenfjord’s CO2 emissions for long-distance transport of salmon has dropped a full 94 percent since the company implemented its ‘Salmon should swim, not fly’ policy two years ago.
Big steps
“We are part of an international community where we all share the responsibility for our environment and the challenges of climate change. We must dare to take big steps to control our emissions,” says Hiddenfjord CEO Atli Gregersen.
The company is nominated in the ‘Business Transformation Awards’ alongside international giants such as PepsiCo, Microsoft, Amazon, Volvo and Nestlé.
The award winners will be announced on 13 October.
