Users to pay for electric car home chargers

From 1 January 2023, anyone using an electric car home charger from public energy provider SEV will need to pay a fixed monthly fee of DKK 89 incl. VAT.
SEV’s home chargers for electric vehicles have for the past four years been available to rent for free as part of a trial project.
But this trial period has now expired, and SEV has decided that users should start paying for their chargers.
“These chargers have a cost of about DKK 7,000. These costs have eaten into our profit margins, which we spend on expanding our electricity grid,” says SEV CEO Hákun Djurhuus.

“We believe it’s only fair that the user starts paying for their chargers.”
Users of SEV’s home charging kits will receive a discount of DKK 0.50 per KWh of electricity, and SEV will cover all maintenance and replacement costs.
Djurhuus adds that the in the unlikely event that the monthly fee changes in the near future, it will become cheaper rather than more expensive.
SEV’s home chargers have an estimated average lifespan of seven years.
