Child adoption put on hold

Danish International Adoption, DIA, announced on Tuesday that it ceases to provide international adoption assistance.
As Faroese adoption is processed through the DIA, this means that it is currently not possible to adopt children to the Faroes.
The main reason for the DIA’s decision is that some of the donor nations are struggling to meet the formal requirements for adoption.
Consequently, the DIA says it can no longer guarantee that all adoption requirements can be fulfilled.
The Faroese Ministry of Justice, which administers adoption, says that prospective adoptive parents who have already been approved will have their cases processed.
It is currently unclear what happens to the remaining families on the adoption waiting list.
