Max alcohol percentage to remain at 60 percent

Max alcohol percentage to remain at 60 percent
A new directive on production, imports and sales of alcohol has come into force

21.01.2020 - 19:49

The highest alcohol content of drinks imported or made in the Faroes remains at 60 percent.

This has been determined despite the Tourism Board campaigning for the maximum to be increased to 65 percent, arguing that some popular high-end drinks such as rum and whisky can have alcohol contents just exceeding 60 percent.

The new directive also leaves the age limit for drinking alcohol unchanged, at 18.

New licencing regulations

Another new directive outlines the regulations on alcohol licencing, replacing the old directive from 1992.

With the new directive, an alcohol licence will cost DKK 10,000, which is more than the amount recommended by the Tourism Board.
