Numerous parties held amid corona lockdown
Health minister urges youths to respect social distancing guidelines after parties were held throughout the country last night

Police have received reports of parties held across the country last night, despite repeated advice from health authorities to keep a safe distance from others to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Responding to these reports, officers showed up at some of these parties, where they spoke with the young partygoers about the coronavirus and the restrictions on group activities.

The police say this is all they can do, as they are not authorised to stop big social gatherings.

Minister pleads with youths and parents

This has prompted health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen to plead with the country’s youths to respect the social distancing guidelines, while also calling on parents to ensure that their houses are not being used for parties.

The minister told news portal in.fo that the Faroese corona policy is based on mutual trust between the health authorities and the general public, which he said is the key reason why the national authorities have been reluctant to authorise police to enforce compliance with the guidelines from the health authorities.

”We should keep holding on to this mutual trust as this policy has so far shown great results,” he told in.fo.

“But if we see much more of this, we have reason to reconsider our stance on this.”
