Although the capital’s nightlife remains sparse during the lockdown, not all bars and nightclubs follow the recommendations to close their doors at 10pm.

Police say that three nightlife establishments remained open after midnight and some didn’t close until shortly before 2am.

Some young people had gone out on the town, but the number was nowhere near what is considered normal for a Saturday night, according to a police spokesperson.

Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen announced on Thursday that nightlife establishments could reopen under carefully controlled circumstances, but the 10pm closing time recommendations from the original lockdown instructions still apply.

However, police have no authority to force these establishments to follow the closing time recommendation.

From tomorrow, groups of up to 50 people are allowed to gather in one place, provided that the two-metre distance rules are adhered to. This is also a recommendation, which means that police cannot enforce these restrictions.
