Beef and pork the most popular meal components

Beef and pork, mostly imported, are the most popular meat-based components of hot meals in the Faroes.
Fish comes in at a distant second, and young people eat significantly less fish than the older generations.
The older people are, the more they tend to eat Faroese food. The consumption of Faroese food varies greatly across the islands.
These are some of the conclusions of an analysis of Faroese eating habits in the 2019 public health survey, which featured 3,000 participants.

The younger age groups drink far more fizzy soft drinks than the older groups. More than 20 percent of men and more than 10 percent of women in the 18-29 age group drink at least one soft drink every day.
And nearly all energy drinks are consumed by men in the 18-29 age group.
Women eat more sweets than men do. The survey indicates that 45 percent of women aged 30-44 eat sweets every day, compared with 29 percent of men in the same age group.
Fast foods such as pizza, burgers and hot dogs are much more popular among those aged 45 and below.
