Fewer migrant construction workers
The pandemic appears to have created a sense of uncertainty in the construction industry, says economic council

After unprecedented growth in the past five years, the construction industry has slowed down considerably in the past year.

This is partly due to a sense of uncertainty caused by the ongoing pandemic and partly due to many big construction projects being completed at the same time, says Heri á Rógvi, who heads the economic council, which presented its 2021 spring report today.

Fewer new projects

“Many construction firms, especially the smaller ones, appear to be wary of starting new projects these days,” he says.

“This reduced activity is also evidenced by about 270 fewer migrant construction workers than this time last year.”

He expects the pace in the construction industry to pick up again later this year or next year at the latest.
