Carbon emissions in the Faroe Islands are on the rise, increasing by 4.7 percent from 2019 to 2020, reports the Environment Agency.

The emission rate has risen drastically since 2016, going up by almost 20 percent in 2017, 12 percent in 2018 and a further six percent in 2019.

As in previous years, fishing vessels represented the highest emissions, with more than 40 percent of the total.

Foreign ships fishing in Faroese waters accounted for more than half of this figure.
