More than 13 percent of houses in the Faroes are unoccupied, according to new data from the Municpality Association.

The data covers 27 of the country’s 29 municipalities. Tórshavn and Fugloy municipalities are not included in the figures.

According to the data, the 27 municipalities comprise 11,345 residential houses, of which 1,481 (13.1 percent) are unoccupied.

In Sandoy, 29.7 percent of all houses are uninhabited and more 19 percent in Vestmanna, Kvívík and Suðuroy.
