A week-long celebration of cultural diversity
Having at least 111 different nationalities represented in a tiny population of about 54,000 is certainly worth celebrating.
And on Friday, we can all get together to celebrate this diversity for a full week.
Tórshavn has previously hosted a Diversity Week. This year, Tórshavn municipality has teamed up with the Immigration Office to organise a nationwide celebration of cultural diversity, the Multicultural Week.
It all starts with the opening event at Tórshavn’s Nordic House this Friday at 3pm, which will include speeches, live music and food tasting.
On the Multicultural Week Facebook page, the organisers write:
“We hope many people will join in the celebration and be actively involved in raising cultural awareness.
“During the week, the Nordic House and Tórshavn Municipality will organise events and activities and integration vicar, Marjun Lómaklett will have an international service. Other municipalities are also planning to organize activities of their own so check on our program for daily updates at www.integration.fo/mcw or www.torshavn.fo.
“Check out our website to see the week’s programme and for more information on how you, schools, workplaces, sports associations and other associations can actively participate in the week: www.integration.fo/mcw or www.torshavn.fo.
“We would like to see how you celebrate Multicultural Week, so please share your photos with us by using the hashtag #fjølmentanføroyar. For more information, please contact David Im or Fía Lindenskov at fjolmentan@gmail.com.”
The organisers hope to turn the Multicultural Week into a recurring event with participation from as many municipalities as possible.
