Electric cars may cause space limitations on ferries

The number of electric cars allowed on ferries is expected to be limited when the regulations and risk assessments for electric vehicles on ferries.
This means that all ferries operated by public transport firm SSL are likely to reduce their capacity on the car deck when electric vehicles are on board.

Sjóvinnustýrið, the Faroese Maritime Authority, says that as soon as the international safety regulations regarding electric and hybrid vehicles are ready, work will begin to implement the new rules in the Faroes.
Until such a time, the authority is advising shipping companies to keep a keen eye on the special risks of having electric batteries on the car decks of a ferry.
Each ship is required to make its own risk assessment, which should include clear information about where electric vehicles should be parked and possibly charged.
