Airline slammed for misleading ad

The consumer watchdog has issued a reprimand and a warning to Atlantic Airways regarding its “Sveimandi tilboð” advertising campaign.
According to the watchdog, the campaign is misleading and vague because the consumer is not given sufficient information about the deals.
The airline says that prices change in line with changes in airport taxes and other charges.
This information is far too complex for the regular consumer to grasp, argues the consumer watchdog.

The Faroese marketing law requires advertisers to clearly state the actual price that the consumer will pay for a product or a service.
According to the watchdog, the ‘Sveimandi tilboð’ campaign gives people the impression that the listed price applies to one-way and return flights alike. But this is not the case.
Consumers reported to the watchdog that at the time the advert was posted, no tickets were available to a certain destination at the listed price of DKK 695.

Violations of the marketing law may result in a fine. However, as this is the airline’s first registered breach of this law, it was instead handed a reprimand and a warning.
Atlantic Airways has announced that it has revised its advertising strategy to ensure that it complies with the law.
