Photos: ólavsøka 2023 – a washout

Some parts of the country have had decent weather in the past couple of days, but the capital, which hosts the ólavsøka festivities, has been drenched in rain pretty much non-stop.
Umbrellas were the order of the day yesterday, and that will most likely continue for the rest of today, too.
At about 3.30am this morning, reports emerged of a man who had fallen into the sea by the city’s ferry terminal. Police officers spent 15 minutes getting the man out of the water. He was taken to the National Hospital.
A little earlier, a car was reported stolen. The car had crashed into a street sign by the Dalavegur/Marknagilvegur crossing. Two men were arrested in connection with the car theft and have been charged with drink driving.
