Closer ties with EU and USA

Faroese relations with the United States are a high priority for the Faroese government.
The Faroes and the US signed a partnership declaration in 2020 aimed at closer cooperation in areas such as trade, research, culture and education.
The first official meeting under the 2020 partnership declaration was held in Washington DC in February 2023.

The meeting offered a review of progress since the partnership declaration was signed and set goals for the coming year.
A follow-up meeting will be held in the Faroes early next year.
The plan is to open a Faroese representation office in Washinton DC this spring and to have a Faroes-themed culture conference in New York in April.

The Faroese government also intends to strengthen its ties with the European Union.
Last year, an agreement on the participation of the Faroe Islands in EU programmes, with a specific protocol on its association to the EU scientific research initiative, Horizon Europe, was signed in Brussels.
This association brings value for the Faroese research community and constitutes a major pillar of the bilateral relations between the Faroe Islands and the EU.
