Two serious traffic accidents in quick succession

Two people were taken to hospital yesterday evening after two separate traffic accidents.
The severity of their injuries is currently unclear.
It started with a car crashing into the wall in the Vágar subsea tunnel around 7.45pm yesterday.
The car was wrecked by the crash and the driver, a man, was taken to the National Hospital for treatment.
Police say the man was conscious when the ambulance arrived at the scene.
Police officer seriously injured
Another serious accident occurred almost simultaneously and only a few kilometres away.
A police officer driving a motorbike in the direction of the Vágar tunnel, on the stretch between the roundabout in the Kollafjørður valley and the Effo petrol station, is believed to have collided with a sheep that was crossing the road.
A police spokesperson told news portal in.fo that the officer is in a critical condition but that he is conscious. The officer’s family has been informed.
Both accidents are being investigated. Police say there is no evidence to suggest that the accidents are related.
