The sentences handed to two young men involved in an axe attack last year will not be appealed

Two men, aged 22 and 24, were last month acquitted of attempted murder but were found guilty of extreme violence and causing grievous bodily harm.

The charges were filed after an attack on a young man in Tórshavn on 6 May last year.

The 22-year-old man, who used an axe during the incident, was sentenced to placement in a mental institution for an unspecified period. The defendant had requested this penalty himself, and he accepted it.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison. He and his lawyer requested a two-week period to evaluate the sentence.

As this two-week period has now passed, the sentences cannot be appealed to the High Court and are therefore final.
