Work starting on subsea tunnel entrance
Preparations have begun on the entrance to the Runavík side of the undersea tunnel between Streymoy and Eysturoy

Drilling and blasting for the tunnel entrance on the Eysturoy side of the Eysturoy tunnel will start in the coming days.

After a couple of weeks’ drillings, work will start on the concrete entrance to the tunnel.

An area of at least 100 metres will be fenced off, and warning signals will be given ahead of any blasting, according to Runavík City Council.

A total of 7,444 metres have so far been drilled of the Eysturoy tunnel, which will have a length of more than 11 km once completed.

Some 3,640 metres have been drilled from the Streymoy end, and 1,200 metres have been drilled from the roundabout south of Hvítanes, Streymoy.

A total of 980 metres have been drilled from the Runavík end.
