The National Hospital management has requested that midwives should work as usual at the hospital, despite going on strike yesterday.

The Midwives’ Union has rejected two applications for exceptions at the National Hospital, the latter of which sought to ensure the presence of two midwives at the maternity ward.

“We are on strike, so we have rejected these requests,” says Annika Hoydal, the head of the Midwives’ Union.

In this context, urgent help means assisting all women giving birth and having one midwife present to cover other urgent matters.
