Long liner Jákup B and four other Faroese fishing vessels found themselves dodging military bullets in Faroese territorial waters last summer.

In June, warships were firing live rounds, and the communication was conducted in English and French.

It eventually emerged that this was a NATO drill, but neither Faroese nor Danish maritime security authorities were informed of this the activity,

Foreign minister Poul Michelsen has now revealed that this incident was significantly more threatening than Faroese authorities thought once the news broke.

He has lashed out at Danish authorities for not providing sufficient information about military activity in Faroese waters.

“It feels like being a guest in your own home,” he said.
