Arguably the tallest mast in the country, the Loran mast in Eiði, will soon be taken down, and the entire Loran station area will be cleared.

This is done in preparation of the transfer of lighthouses and sea marking from Danish authorities to the Faroese government. The process is headed by the Danish Maritime Authority.

Loran-C is a radio navigation system that can be used for navigation and the receipt of time information if you have a Loran-C receiver.

The Loran-C station in Eiði is a part of the Northwest European Loran system, consisting of four stations in Norway, two in France, one in England, one in Germany and the Eiði station.
