Airport shuttle fare goes up
Taxi firm Auto has increased its airport shuttle fare from DKK 200 to DKK 225 per person. Other providers are considering following suit

In an effort to combat traffic bottleneck problems, Vágar Airport has started charging taxi companies DKK 12.50 per trip.

The airport has introduced new measures to control the increasing taxi traffic outside the entrance.

This includes the appointment of a dedicated coordinator whose job it is to organise traffic at the transit area outside the entrance to the airport.

Auto CEO Dia Midjord welcomes the new initiative, saying that the airport shuttle service has now become so extensive that unless something is done to ease the traffic, it will result in chaos.

Same fare for four years

“We have had the same fare for four years now, and it is only fair that we increase it now,” he says.

“Considering the great door-to-door service we provide and the expenses involved for our drivers – and that our fares remain the same throughout the year – DKK 225 is not a high price to charge.

“Whether this is the right way to solve the traffic problems at the airport remains to be seen. The new solution will be assessed in three months’ time, and then we will have a clearer idea.”

Auto’s main competitor, Bil, has yet to increase its fares, but a spokesman for the firm says they are considering doing it, too.
