Grocery store sales go up
Retail sales figures for the second quarter of 2019 show that grocery stores are selling more this year than last year.
Statistics Faroe Islands has published retail sales figures for three commodity groups: food and non-alcoholic drinks, clothes and footwear, and furniture and household items.
Compared with the second quarter (Q2) of last year, the ‘food and non-alcoholic drinks’ group saw the biggest growth, with a 3.5-percent increase in Q2 2019 compared to Q2 2018.
Same growth since 2013
This is the same average annual growth since 2013. Prices have risen in the past year, and the product volume has increased by 2 percent.
Clothes and footwear have remained largely unchanged over the past decade, and sales figures have remained constant for almost three years.
There was no change in turnover for the ‘furniture and household items’ group from Q2 2018 to Q2 2019. This commodity group has seen an average price drop of 4 percent over this one-year period.
