Big increase in exports
The Faroes exported goods worth more than DKK 10 billion last year.
Up to 1 December 2019, exports had reached DKK 9.4 billion, which is an increase of DKK 1.5 billion on the first 11 months of 2018, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
Exports of mackerel and herring rose by DKK 300 million and cod exports by DKK 270 million.
Salmon still the bestseller
Salmon continues to be by far the most popular Faroese export commodity, with overseas sales increasing by more than DKK 700 million last year.
In total, the volume of fish exported last year was 7 percent higher than in 2018.
Imports also grew last year, but not as much as exports. In the first 11 months of last year, imports accounted for DKK 8 billion, which is an increase of DKK 333 million on 2018 figures.
