Minister: rape crisis centre ready within a year

Later this year or early next year, a rape crisis centre will be set up in the hospital service.

This was health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen’s reply to an enquiry from MP and former health minister Sirið Stenberg.

Johannesen said that in 2016, the government received a recommendation on how emergency services for rape victims can be set up in the Faroes.

It has, however, not been possible to realise this plan due to a lack of gyneacologists.

But now that a fourth gyneacologist has been appointed, there is now sufficient basis for re-evaluating the 2016 recommendation and start preparations for a rape crisis centre, said Johannesen.
